Would you like to plan an activity during your stopover at the port of La Romana, in the Dominican Republic? We organize a wonderful excursion, offering you the chance to discover the wild and untouched beaches of the southern part of Saona Island. Unlike the typical excursions offered by cruise ship lines, this outing is done in small groups and visits preserved and authentic places, far from the tourist hustle and bustle.
A transport will be waiting for you at the taxi stand, at the cruise port exit, where all participants from the same ship as yours will gather. The driver will take you to our office in Bayahibe, the starting point of the excursion.
Let's embark on an adventure on a speed boat, to explore Saona Island in a small group! We will begin our journey in front of the Penon, where our English-speaking guide will share information about the history of this cliff and the Taino natives, the island's first inhabitants. Next, we will explore the Mangrove where trees grow directly in the marine waters.
Here we are at last! Our first stop on Saona Island is the village of Mano Juan. We will walk through it to immerse ourselves in the local life of this paradise island: its inhabitants, their colorful houses, and their typical small shops. A must-see is the turtle nursery, a project led by a local family. With simple means, they take care of egg incubation during the nesting period and ensure the release of baby turtles into the sea. The chance to see newborns is not guaranteed 100%, as it depends on the season and hatching cycle.
Lunchtime is approaching! We will savor a delicious Dominican meal at a restaurant on Saona's beach. In season (from July 1st to February 29th), lobster is available at a cost of $25 USD per person.
After the meal, we head to the furthest and most enchanting beach on the island, CANTO DE LA PLAYA, where we will spend 1.5 hours of relaxation and snorkeling. We will conclude our journey with the famous natural pool, where we can admire immense starfish (please note that touching them is prohibited, but you can see them and take pictures). A swimming break in the shallow waters and a Dominican-style aperitif will complete this experience.
Return to the Bayahibe port with unforgettable memories, where your transportation will be waiting to take you back to the La Romana port.
A driver will be waiting for you at the taxi stand, at the exit of the La Romana cruise port at 9:00 am. He will ensure that all participants from the same cruise ship, Marella Discovery, are present, using a list that we will provide him.
For the return, the driver will be waiting for you at the Bayahibe port by 5:30 pm for a return to La Romana port around 6:00 pm. The departure of your cruise ship, Marella Discovery, is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
