You will be passing by La Romana port, located in the Dominican Republic, and you would like to discover Saona Island? We offer you the opportunity to embark on an unforgettable adventure by exploring the wild and pristine beaches of the southern part of Saona. Unlike conventional tours suggested by cruise lines, this outing takes place in a small group, allowing you to discover authentic and secluded places, away from the usual tourist hustle and bustle.
A transport will be waiting for you at the taxi stand, at the exit of the La Romana cruise port, where all participants from the same cruise ship as you will gather. The driver will take you to our office in Bayahibe, the starting point of our excursion, to board our comfortable boat.
Let's go! Let's explore the Cotubanama Natural Park. Take a short break in front of El Penon, where our guide will reveal details about this rocky wall and the Tainos, the island's first inhabitants. Then, we'll pass through the mangroves, a forest of mangrove trees that thrive directly in the salty waters of the ocean.
Our first stop will be on Saona Island, at Canto de la Playa beach. Enjoy 2.5 hours on this paradisiacal beach with pristine sand lined with coconut trees. For some, it's a time to relax, while others may opt for a snorkeling session...
After these magical moments, let's board the speedboat again towards the fishing village of Mano Juan, where a Dominican lunch awaits us. Once the meal is finished, let's gear up with a cap and sunscreen to explore the village with our guide and discover local life (wooden homes, anecdotes, local shops, national sports...).
Let's conclude our adventure with a visit to the turtle nursery, a project maintained by a local family. With limited resources, they take care of hatching eggs during the nesting period and releasing baby turtles into the ocean. The probability of seeing hatchlings is not guaranteed 100%, depending on the season and hatching cycle. After the visit, take a short moment to nap by the water or test your negotiation skills in the local shops.
To finish on a high note, we'll make a detour to the famous natural pool where we can observe giant starfish (please note that touching them is forbiden, but you can admire and photograph them). Enjoy a cocktail in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and soak in this unique moment.
Return to the Bayahibe port with beautiful memories. Your transportation will be waiting to take you back to the La Romana port.
A driver will be waiting for you at the taxi stand, at the exit of the La Romana cruise port at 8:00 am. He will ensure that all participants from the same cruise ship Costa are present, using a list that we will provide him.
For the return, the driver will wait for you at 17:00 at the port of Bayahibe to take you back. The departure of your Costa cruise ship is scheduled for 23:59.
