Would you like to plan an activity during your stopover at the port of La Romana, in the Dominican Republic? We organize a wonderful excursion, offering you the chance to discover the wild and untouched beaches of the southern part of Saona Island. Unlike the typical excursions offered by cruise ship lines, this outing is done in small groups and visits preserved and authentic places, far from the tourist hustle and bustle.
A transport will be waiting for you at the taxi stand, at the exit of the La Romana cruise port, where all participants from the same cruise ship as you will gather. The driver will take you to our office in Bayahibe, the starting point of our excursion, to board our comfortable boat.
Let's go! Let's explore the Cotubanama National Park. Take a short break in front of the Penon, where our English-speaking guide will provide information about this cliff and the Tainos, the island's first inhabitants. Next, let's explore the mangroves, a forest of mangrove trees that grow directly in the saltwater of the sea.
Our first stop will be on Saona Island, at Canto de la playa beach. Enjoy 2.5 hours on this idyllic beach with white sand lined with palm trees. For some, it's time to relax, while others may choose to go snorkeling...
After these enchanting moments, let's take the boat back to the village of Mano Juan, where a Dominican lunch awaits you. After lunch, let's put on a hat and sunscreen to explore the village of Mano Juan with our guide and discover local life (wooden houses, anecdotes, local shops, national sports...).
Let's conclude our adventure with a visit to the turtle nursery, a project maintained by a local family. With limited resources, they take care of hatching eggs during the nesting period and release baby turtles into the sea. The chance to see newborns is not guaranteed 100%, it depends on the season and hatching cycle. After the visit, take a short moment to nap by the water or test your negotiating skills in the small local shops.
To end on a high note, we will pass by the famous natural pool where we can observe giant starfish (note that touching them is not allowed, but you can admire them and take photos). Enjoy a drink in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and savor this magical moment.
Return to the Bayahibe port with unforgettable memories, where your transportation will be waiting to take you back to the La Romana port.
A driver will be waiting for you at the taxi stand, at the exit of the La Romana cruise port at 8:00 am (Aida Perla) or 9:00am (Aida Sol and Aida Blu). He will ensure that all participants from the same cruise ship, Aida, are present, using a list that we will provide him.
For the return, the driver will wait for you at the port of Bayahibe at around 5:00 pm, to take you back. The departure of your AIDA cruise ship is scheduled for 22:00.
